HAEUNDAE's TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Dongbaek Island (designated Busan Metropolitan City Memorial #46) was an island in ancient times. However, accumulation of earth and sand carried from Jwa-dong, Jung-dong, and U-dong by the Chuncheon Stream eventually formed a land bridge, making it an island in name only. Dongbaek Island is thick with camellias and pine trees. The summit contains a bronze statue of Scholar Choi Chi-won (pen name Ko Un) and a monument to his memory.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is situated on the coast of the north-eastern portion of Busan. This superb find of a tourist spot and temple offers visitors the rare find of a temple along the shore line. Most temples in Korea are located in the mountains. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was first built in 1376 during the Goryeo Dynasty. During the reign of Uwang, the great Buddhist teacher known as Naong established this temple beside the sea. Haesu Gwaneum Daebul (Seawater Great Goddess Buddha), Daeungjeon Main Sanctuary, Yongwangdang Shrine, Gulbeop Buddhist Sanctum (enclosed in a cave), and a three-story pagoda with 4 lions can all be seen looking out over the ocean.

ORYUK ISLETS - Haeundae Busan

The islets is the gateway of Busan, through which all ships sail to enter Busan Harbor. Oryuk Islets consists of Pangpae Islets, Suri Islets, SongotIslets, Kull Islets, and Patt Islets. The islets name is commonly thought to derive from the natural tides that change the appearance of the islets. At low tide there are 6 islets, and at high tide there are 5 islets.

However, according to old documents, a different explanation exists; 'It is named Oryuk Islets because when see islets on the east side there are 6 islets, and on the west side there are 5 islets'. It means that the islets look different not because of the natural tides but because of the direction they are viewed from.

NARIMARU APEC HOUSE

Nurimaru APEC House is evaluated as the most beautiful place among the meeting places during the APEC Leaders' Meeting on Dongbaek Island. It is the place where the 2nd APEC Leaders' Meeting, Leaders' Luncheon, and the Official Photograph took place during APEC 2005 KOREA. The leaders of APEC's 21 member economies announced the "Busan Declaration" here on November 19, 2005. The name "Nurimaru" is the combination of two purely Korean words: "nuri" meaning the world and "maru" meaning summit. Thus, "Nurimaru APEC House" means "the house where world leaders gathered and held the APEC Leaders' Meeting

The design concept was based on the idea that world leaders are brought together to another silvery island that looks like Dongbaek Island to embody the spirit of openness and cooperation, the guiding spirit of APEC. It is a modern style building with traditional Korean "arbor" style adopted for the overall shape of the building.

-The shape of the roof is a representation of the curves of Dongbaek Island.
-The 12 inclined columns on the outside of the building represent Dynamic Busan.
-Korea's creative traditional culture is visualized in its interior design.
