47th JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL

The Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival (Jinhae Gunhangje Festival) took place from March 27-April 5, 2009. There are hundreds of cherry trees that line the street every spring. The festival which was originated from a memorial event in 1952, has been held annually to remember the patriotic spirit of Admiral Yi and promote the local festivities with the blossoms in full bloom since 1963. From the start of the opening ceremony, the festival offers a variety of events such as Traditional Korean-style chess contest, Cherry Blossom Photo Contest, Jinhae International Military Band and Honor Guard Festival, Memorial Services of Gunhanghe (Naval Port) and Congratulatory Parade for General Yi Sun-sin. The parade for Admiral Yi Sun-sin, which is held by the six-hundred man Marine Band, Honor Guards and the National Classical Music Institute is the highlight of the Festival.
