JINHAE CHERRY BLOSSOM

Jinhae is known to be the only place in the world where visitors can find more than 340,000 cherry blossoms in one city. The neighborhood turns white and pale pink during the annual cherry blossom festival period with the gentle breeze blowing about the petal-snowflakes. The Jinhae Gunhang (Naval Port) Festival is the largest cherry blossom festival in the country. This year, the festival starts March 27 and runs through April 5 at Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province.

The cherry trees in Chinhae were planted during the Japanese
Colonial Period. As the cherry tree is a Japanese national flower, it was not cared by Koreans, but one botanical scholar found out that king cherry trees originated in Jeju Island. Since then Jinhae City planted the cherry trees for landscaping.

When the pink and white cherry flowers get full blossom, this particular area gives a visionary snowy world to visitors during the Cherry Blossom Festival. At nights, lights are turned on around the place for more spectacular and romantic atmosphere. Also known as one of the location for the drama "Romance"(2009) starring Actress KimHa-neul.
